Lake Taurikura

The focal point is the 8 hectare fresh water lake which meanders through the suburb. A structured landing is situated at each end of Lake Taurikura, as well as a jetty which is popular with the local remote controlled yachting club. The architecturally designed double curved bridge which stretches across the lake is a natural extension of The Lakes, blending in with the wood detailing and natural surroundings. Home to the Kingfisher and the Heron, the lake is populated with fish from the nearby Kopurererua Stream.

Lake Taurikura is perfect for kayaking and with no tides and the confined environment, it makes an ideal place to teach the kids to kayak. Other popular pastimes at the lake include jogging, cycling, walking, sketching and photography. The lake also provides opportunities for schools to carry out a range of environmental studies.

The Lakes has been planned and designed with great respect for heritage and nature; we are an environmentally sensitive and aware community.

Walkways and Cycleways

20km's of walkways, cycleways and footpaths wind throughout The Lakes. The well lit paths are designed so that people can get out and enjoy the community. From a gentle stroll to a more challenging jog, there is a path to suit every fitness level. The Lakes is also a popular venue for school cross countries and regional triathlons.

Parks and Playgrounds

The Lakes is designed around environmental elements with approximately 200,000 plants and trees planted in 2008. There are 3 children’s play areas situated throughout the 2 stages, as well as neighbourhood parks and reserves where families, neighbours and friends can come together for fun and relaxation.

Community Village

The Lakes future neighbourhood shopping centre, located near the middle of the development, will offer approximately 25 shops, cafes and restaurants, including comprehensive medical facilities, childcare services, hairdressers, garden centre, a boutique food store, as well as other shopping options
