Walkways

The walkways throughout The Lakes get a good, regular workout – they are popular amongst many. Little wonder. There’s the option of meandering lake-side along various paths, or along the streets where there’s plenty to see in this constantly evolving lifestyle subdivision.

Three and five km trail distances have even been marked out, for those taking note of distance, or wanting to break out into a jog!

Cycleways

New Zealand is becoming increasingly focused on the provision of cycleways, and at The Lakes we’re right up with the play. Cycleways were on the planning board from day one, and what a wise choice that has been.

The Lakes includes 20 kilometres of cycleways, walkways and footpaths. There’s even a recreational trail map available to assist in navigating around this picturesque subdivision.

Walk the dog

The Lakes is a destination dog walking environment, enjoyable for dog owners and their pooches. Built around man-made parks and lakes, The Lakes offers a perfect opportunity for walking dogs off the city streets with various trails to sniff out.

 

Kayaking/Stand-Up Paddle Boarding

The Lakes lifestyle enables you to play where you live and live where you play, and the ability to enjoy water sports here is a case in point. A focal point of the subdivision is the 10 hectare freshwater lake which isn’t just there to look at, it’s there for play too!

It’s perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding, offering a confined environment with no tides to contend with.  A structured landing is situated at each end of Lake Taurikura, as well as a jetty (which is popular with the local remote-controlled yachting club.)

 

Cafes/Shops

It was always intended that The Lakes would include a café and shopping hub, and The Lakes Shopping Village has proven very popular with locals since opening earlier this year.

On offer is a Four Square and a hugely popular café/restaurant/ bar (The General) as well as other international food outlets and a gluten-free fish ‘n’ chip shop.

Smiley faces represent playgrounds on The Lakes recreational map. It’s appropriate as, at The Lakes there are a variety of wonderful playgrounds to delight the littlies (and please their minders).

The Lakes prides itself on being a family-friendly environment and therefore playgrounds are dotted throughout, including one alongside the shopping village which includes a mini flying fox!
