	Walkways The walkways through The Lakes are always popular. There’s the option of meandering lake-side along various paths, or along the streets where there’s plenty to see in this constantly evolving lifestyle subdivision. View the recreational trail maps

	Cycleways New Zealand is becoming more focused on the provision of cycleways. We have over 20 kilometres of cycleways, just perfect for cycling enthusiasts. View the recreational trail maps

	Walk the dog The Lakes is a destination dog walking environment, enjoyable for dog owners and their pooches. Built around man-made parks and lakes, The Lakes offers a perfect opportunity for walking dogs off the city streets with various trails to sniff out.

	Feed the Ducks The Lakes has plenty of local birdlife making Lake Taurikura their home. Take a stroll through our many walkways, down towards the lake to feed the ducks. They love seeds, oats, grapes (cut in half if large), peas, corn and cut up vegetable peels.

	Cafes/Shops Our Shopping Village is popular with locals and visitors alike. Located at the heart of The Lakes, it includes a hugely popular café/restaurant - The General. Stop in for a coffee while the kids play across the road at the playground. Also on offer is a Four Square as well as other international food outlets and a gluten-free fish ‘n’ chip shop. 	Playgrounds Smiley faces represent playgrounds on The Lakes recreational map. It’s appropriate as, at The Lakes there are a variety of wonderful playgrounds to delight the littlies (and please their minders). The Lakes prides itself on being a family-friendly environment and therefore playgrounds are dotted throughout, including one alongside the shopping village which includes a mini flying fox and an interactive water playground! 	Kayaking/Stand-Up Paddle Boarding The Lakes lifestyle enables you to play where you live and live where you play, and the ability to enjoy water sports here is a case in point. A focal point of the subdivision is the 10 hectare freshwater lake which isn’t just there to look at, it’s there for play too! It’s perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding, offering a confined environment with no tides to contend with. A structured landing is situated at each end of Lake Taurikura, as well as a jetty (which is popular with the local remote-controlled yachting club.)

	Hit the Shops When it’s wet and cold outside, it’s great to hit the shops and get inspired. With Tauranga Crossing just on our doorstep, there’s plenty of opportunity to while away the hours!

	Hot Pools We are lucky living in the Bay of Plenty to have the luxury of multiple hot pools including Oropi, Fernlands and Mount Hot Pools. All open until 10pm, all affordable and all perfect for a winter’s treat.
